Will booker bring legal pot to the party all the way? No doubt Bernie got the wave going but booker could seal the deal as a more party line dem... thus the progressive wing and mainline wing merge seemlessly on this issue? That on this our leaders are representing our values of how most of us as centrists to left wing progressive citizens already where...

Kinda how the party folk had to catch up with the people on being pro-gay marriage... went from fringe liberal issue at one time to a bread and butter basics of being anywhere from center on left...

Obama got the wave (at least federally) going with the Holder Memo. I mean really Bernie hasn't accomplished much materially in regards to cannabis. As far as lgbt rights, Clinton made progress the 90s with DADT. Even though looking back on it now it wouldn't be considered very progressive, it was a huge step in the right direction.

At least give credit where it is due, not to Bernard.

I don't see this going anywhere in a GOP controlled congress.

He has a really strong pro Wall Street stance that bothers me, so I'm a bit negative about anything he'd initiate. Maybe I'm biased. I'm open to anything that moves legalized MJ out of the hands of the DEA. Just not anything that would lock up MMJ in the hands of big pharma like rescheduling might do. This bill supposedly would legalize, not decriminalize it, so from a passing look it might be a good bill.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/wonk/wp/2017/08/01/cory-booker-puts-marijuana-legalization-at-the-center-of-his-new-racial-justice-bil/?utm_term=.2c831d720236

Sen. Cory Booker on Wednesday introduced legislation that would legalize marijuana, expunge federal marijuana convictions and penalize states with racially-disparate arrest or incarceration rates for marijuana-related crimes. The changes are aimed at undoing some of the harm the nation's decades-long war on drugs has inflicted on poor and minority communities.

Like legislation introduced two years ago by Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.), the bill from Booker, a New Jersey Democrat, would remove marijuana from the federal Controlled Substances Act. This would remove marijuana from the purview of the federal Drug Enforcement Administration and allow states to set their own policies.

IDK why marijuana legalization should be a political thing. Dems should be for it because of the obvious 'social justice' implications, and Republicans should be for it because "muh freedom" and "small government". Aside from that, you don't need to be a genius to see how cannabis prohibition is a completely ineffective and hypocritical mess. It really is a common sense thing unless somebody is benefiting from the prohibition, getting paid off, or just hates the culture associated with cannabis.

Because there's money in it.

That's dangerously close to a serious question, brother.

Maybe loosing these things people will realize how much they enjoyed policies that were headed in a liberal/progressive direction.

I'm not hoping for this at all, I just don't get why people vote people into office that are against all that they want and is positive...

Progressiveism has always landed on right side of history. Forget party names as the parties change over time but conservative mindset and liberal mindset do not.

Liberals wanted to no longer kiss the kings rings, conservatives where loyalists.

Liberals wanted all people free conservatives fought for enslavement.

Progressives wanted all to vote. Conservatives wanted, wait make this one present tense, want only white men to vote (I think to be accurate currently they Wud let white women vote, for now at least)

Progressives want all to marry whom they want. Conservatives say all must confirm to their interpretation of their holy book. Better clarify, The Protestant Christian Bible because Sharia law is scary, but laws based on their king James are good.

Progressives and liberals want people to be able to enjoy a HARMLESS plant. Conservatives well need I say more brought you Jefferson Boulreguard Sessions

Ironic that the people who most vocally cry for change can't recognize the difference between the two parties.
