I use Grodans rockwool every time I grow. There really is no trick. They're PH neutral. They contain no natural organic fertilizers. They're just a neutral growing medium.

I guess the only 'trick' is to make sure you remember to soak them for 24 hours before putting your seeds/clones in it. This will make the rockwool a little less abrasive to your new taproot, and it helps it stay saturated longer.

Well its been a while since i used rockwool but it needs to be soaked in order to lower the ph because it comes high, thats what the pre soak is for. If you are using siol then dont bother with rockwool.

Ha! I didnt believe you, smppro, so I went and looked it up. Got all cocky and thought I was gonna' come back here and post a link to prove that the PH of rockwool is neutral... Ended up proving myself wrong. Rockwool does indeed have an unusually high PH level before soaking. I hate being wrong, but I love learning.

Learn something new every day! Thanx, smppro. +rep.

I still suggest using it, but he's right. You'd be just as good putting it right in the dirt. Im still gna use mine because that's what my plants grow in, until I put them out. Leaving them in the 1" cube makes them ALOT easier to manage on planting day.

Soak em', and you'll be fine.

And rep for you for researching and not being an asshole:clap:I like rockwool, its nice and neat, i loved it in my flood n drain, its still one of the better yields ive had. I think maybe rockwool itself is neutral but the stuff they use to bind it together makes it high? Thought i read that somewhere.:leaf:

I've taken plenty of old mamas and extra plants outside in their 4" cubes and grown them in the garden.........I do have to keep them muddied in for about a week or the soil(and the plants) will suck the moisture from the cubes and dry the roots............but I don't think it's any harder than any other transplanting...... I get garden plants from my nursery all the time that have a 2" rw cube then potting soil filling the rest of a 4" pot...so our techniques are going more and more mainstream all the time.......

tanks to everyone for the replies to my question but it seems that if growing in soil it would be easier to just put it in the jiffy pot from germ if im not gonna use hydro wanted to have them planted on the first all 6 cracked but only 3 have long enough tails to put in soil wanna do em all the same time
