hello 2 all

i have a new hydro system coming this week
and just got my 1st ph/ppm/temp meter today
Hanna GroChek pH/EC/TDS/Temp. Combo<H1 class=itemTitle>

so i tested my tap water
it was 6.9 ph and 70ppm so i wanted 2 bring it down 2 6.5 with ph down so i did after that i checked ppm it was like 1300ppm b4 i added nuts is this a problem or not ? i just really dont wanna start this hydro thing out on the wrong foot
thanks 2 all that can help

this my 4th year growing /but first time indoors doing the whole hydro/ph thing

i just a good range 2 keep it at

You tested your tap water and it's 6.9 ph and 70ppm (which is a brilliant ppm). I don't understand how your ppm went from 70ppm up to 1300ppm just by adding Ph down. Is your Ph meter reading right? I can't believe your tap water is 70ppm.

If you're growing hydro, you need to keep your Ph at a stable 5.8Ph.

I've been growing in soil for years too, and just come to hydro, after studing it non-stop for 4 or 5 months. I know the basics and the science of it, but i have a hell of a lot to learn yet. You will have to read into it more before you start cracking open your beans.

yes, great PPM on water!!!! i got about 75 and lower during winter & spring time. its good to check ph ppm of water alot, for checking your sensors' calibrarion and to make sure it doesnt change.. nutes fluctuate your PH (and obviously ppm) depending on which nutrient you are using. (not company, but NPK, Ca Mg S, and micro)
happy growing!

Your tap water pH is very low, and some nutrients are acidic so will lower pH. So you should mix your nutrients first, and then check and adjust pH. Once you start Bloom nutes, you may need to use pH Up.

And make certain that your meter is correctly calibrated.

Try this, take a bucket of your tap water, and check pH. Then let it sit for a day or 2 and check again. That will tell you how your water reacts alone, and then as you observe your nutrient soup changing pH, you'll know how to treat it. Many growers with a pH rebound originally adjust a little low, like 5.5, and then don't adjust again until pH is above 6.

you took your probe out of the water before testing yeah ? Preferably you took a sample of your water into a seperate container then tested your water . And you should always test after you've added nutes , not before ...

you should consider using reverse osmosis (r/o) filtered or distilled water if you want consistency. thats all i use and if i cant use it i try to use water thats been sitting about for a few days to get rid of the chlorine after ive run it through my brita filter. lately my ph meter has been giving me wacky readings but make sure yours is calibrated correctly or you could be getting terrible readings to begin with

The RO water is fucking up your pH meter, and i dont think he needs RO water, his water if perfect.

hydro ph should be maintained between 5.2 - 5.8. some ph buffers affect ppm readings dramatically. What type of ph down are you using? You should also calibrate your meters everytime you change the batteries, or at least once a month.

Your water is fine you don't need expensive water with your readings. If you must, don't use brita water filtered water. The charcoal put bad micro's into the water and distilled water removes too many helpful elements. I try to grow in the winter. Since I live in the great white north I use SNOW! Always perfect on for mixing nutes and adjusting PH. I noticed you have what looks like the Continuous meters. If so how are they working for you, Have you used them in a grow yet?
