As long as it's moist and has warmth it should crack and dig in.

Pointed side down in the peat. If conditions are optimal should crack 24-48 hrs, above ground in 3-7 days.

However I have seen beans take 3 weeks in non optimal conditions. The joy of beans.

I've heard a lot can go wrong with the paper towel method though. Wouldn't it be easier to just leave them where they are? If the seeds are in the peat wouldn't it be easier to just leave them where they are? If the seeds are in the peat, they should germinate the same way they would in a paper towel. Unless I'm missing something

I'm starting the process from the beginning. I removed the seeds from the soil because I feel that it'll take a very long time to germinate AND I think I burried them a little too far down in the peat. I removed the seeds and they are now soaking in water. I'll leave them there for about a day and see if any of them germinate. If I see one germinate and show signs of a taproot, I'll then begin the paper towel method to help grow the taproot out some more. I'll do that for 3-4 days and see where I'm at. If the taproots look healthy, I'll plant them into the starter plugs and put them back into my grow box where I'll have the light running 18/6. Once they SPROUT, THEN I'll start the vegetation week 1 nutrients. Is that about right? How's that sound?

Only leave them in water max 10 hrs once they sink swop to paper towel and only white towels

stop fussing. when the seed cracks open plant the thing, thats it, dont dig it up to peek at it. dont water it every day. dont poke your finger at it, just leave it be. skip the bullshit and get cracking.
week one nutrients? hard to know what those are exactly so sorry.

Why is there soil in their? Sprout it, put it in the cups with some hydtoton,rocks, fish tank gravel, marbles, perlite, etc ... no soil. Get a light on it. PH adjusted water until it has 2-3 true leaf sets, then start with 1/4 strength nutes.

Peat plugs and soil will hold too much water in a system like that. They'll also introduce unwanted organic matter into the reservoir that could encourage bacterial growth.

So just swap out the soil with hydroton rocks? The water underneath kind of bubbles as you might have read. Will the hydroton rocks work just as well?

Also, please forgive me because I'm new to this, but what exactly is quarter strength nutrients?

If it says 5ml/g use 1.25ml/g

Optimally you want to pop those jiffy peat in a propagation dome. I used jiffy before in Dwc without issues. However I popped in glass of water, top of fridge paper towel method prior.

I think what you meant was to germinate your seeds first outside of a medium, then place into soil and let the seedling sprout in complete darkness.
Remember people used to put alu over their pots, then remove alu and turn on lights as soon as their seedling sprouted.

nope sorry

after i soak over night then paper towel till white root then in to warm wet promix then i leave mine on the heater in my kitchen no light till they crack the second time and pop the promix with the 2 leaves. then put under light. the heat or temp is more important if ya ask me till they crack the second time

I ordered some hydroton rocks that I'll pick up tomorrow. If I plant the seedlings in the hydroton, how far down should I plant them? Also, when it comes time to start giving them nutrients, do I put the nutrients directly into the water base or do I pour the nutrients over the top of the hydroton rocks?

Basically what I need to know is, once I have each seed with a solid taproot, do I just pop it in the hydroton rocks, let the grow box bubble and moisten the rocks, and flip the light on?

my seeds crack in a jar of water on a kitchen counter with full time led under the counter lighting, seeds sees light till buried in a root cube, no issues. cold granite countertop, clear glass jar.

nutrients go in to the water for the roots to reach

Okay, I just checked on my seeds and about 4 of 5 have opened up showing the first signs of a root. I just transferred them to damp paper towels kept inside slightly opened zip loc bags. I'm gonna wait 2 days and see if the tap root grows at all. Hopefully they will!
