Opinions on LED's?

Hey guys,

All my stuff is well on it's way or already recieved. The other day was on ebay and stumbled across one of those LED grow lights for £34 so bought it with the intention to use as a side light.

What do you guys think of them? I am going to buy some CFL's too. Probably 4-6 depending on costs.

Not worth it for the money...Just google search the topic. I would return it if you can and just get more CFL's if that's what you're doing. Or even better get a HID...

I have a 210W LED light with 660nm red. I use this along with four 23W CFL's, I use it for flowering. I understand alot of people will tell you they are only good for vegging and not good for flowering, but I still use it anyway and grow rock hard buds. people will also say that they only grow popcorn size buds but again I grow buds almost as big as a coke can. you have to sift through the closed minded opinions of these lights and read the opinions of people who use them. there are lots of haters of LED out there... I will continue to ignore them and continue to grow.

I understand... I just wanted to post something positive about LED's before the 50 posts of "they suck" start. In hind sight I should have mentioned that there are many bad LED lights sold that are garbage. there are quite a few sold that do work really well. mine however is not cutting edge( I wish I had one of those though) but it does the job for my small personal use grow. I also failed to say that Lumens are lumens and a wavelength is a wavelength if you have the correct amount of each you can have a successful grow, no matter what type of light. I apologize to the thread owner if I made it sound like the light they bought was gonna solve all thier light problems(if any).

Can you recomend a HID for me then? The problem is my grow space is very small, about 1m wide by 80cm deep and I am led to believe these chuck out a lot of heat?

There are 3 types of people that are going to answer this question. There will be people that talk shit without knowing, people that support them without knowing and a very small percentage of answers who have actually grown with them so be careful who you listen to.

How many plants are you growing? How high is your closet? With proper cooling and ventilation you could use up to a 250w MH/HPS in a closet with your dimensions and assuming at least 7' high. My buddy has a 400w MH/HPS in a 2x2x8 towel closet with a water cooled reflector and inline fan venting the light. It's all about how you prepare your room and set it up.

I have a small 28w sunshine systems light that cost me $150. It has both red and blue spectrum. I grew 4 plants from bagseed and ended up with only 1 female. It was about 18" tall. This panel worked and grew some very very nice looking buds that were extremely dense. It put out very little heat and uses very little electricity. When the bud was cured you could squeeze it with your fingers and it would not compress much if at all. The only problems I had with it were the fact that it took much longer than normal and didn't produce a great yield.

I think I would have GREATLY benefited from another panel or some cfl supplemental lighting. I know of a grow that will be happening soon with 220w of t5s (overhead) and 4- 42w cfls (from the sides) for vegging and 400w HPS (overhead) with the LED board from below for supplemental. From what I've read, cfl paired with LED works much better than one or the other. I would suggeest the board that I purchased because it was much cheaper than some other companies and puts out a lot of light. In a class I was in, we bought a few different kinds of LED lights and tested them. The panel that was very similar to the one I had performed equally with a $600 panel. Hope this helps.

all led are a waste of money. may veg so so but never compete with hid. equal more to cfl`s so why not keep the hundreds in the pocket and use cfl`s if your tryin to stay away from hid. not sure why not using hid`s

HAve you ever used an LED. It seems that everyone that Has loves and get some bamb buds. I am using a ufo 90 w in a similar place and my buds are ROCKS. Look at my thread. A-train 50 days into flower. I do use CFL as well for a little extra punch.

ive tried about everyone on the market and all failed. i work for a shop/nute co and we test things before we have it listed. not a single led in ours.

Ill get about 4 oz dried of this one plant. colas the size of my arm. paid 135 bucks for my light and its not some korean crap.

listen to people that use them not people that doubt them and talk shit.

Ive been using my dual 90 watt for a while now. NICE dense buds/ maybe your thumbs are black and not green

so i talk shit cayuse ive tried em and hate em..just tryin to save people money,. you need more bud than that to make up the cost of them. and we tested the final product...was week. got the same from cfl`s

If I throw a seed in ground with a black light I will get nugs. if you cannot have a good grow with LED my point was maybe you just arent that good at LED growing.

You bash LEDs every time I see the subject being brought up. I'd like to suggest you follow your own advice and Google the subject topic. You have a lot to learn. At least then you can cite studies and actual grows..... oh wait, if you did that, you would be a proponent of LED lights...

To the OP, ignore the close minded ones that can't cite facts or figures but just say LEDs suck. Here is an actual grow you can follow that proves LEDs outperform HIDs watt for watt...
