Opinions on adding 660nm

Im using these 304+ boards that have 48 660 LEDs on each board for about 15% plants seem to be loving them so far.
Notice any difference in growth under the red-enhanced spectrum? I was thinking that 15% would be a good ceiling for the red-ratio; I'd like something that could range from about 20-40 watts.

man, subtool knows nothing i swear! vader on the other hand...clever guy that tried led but low temps held him back - think he mentioned the lack of IR and had a bit of a wet whinge...but was nice to see him talking spectrum tweaking with Mau5...you could see genuine excitement on his otherwise normally dull face, i dont think he enjoys the growtube or the level of conversation but knows its good for business/ocean grown. Lokis setup is ridiculous, im pretty jelly haha (: he should be hand trimming though, or paying someone else to.

Haha... Yeah, I have some opinions on Sub (and his super soil recipe), but I hear he puts out tasty gear? I think the only TGA strain I've actually tried was Plushberry (smoked it, didn't grow it), but it really was one of the more intensely flavorful buds I've had. But I don't know how much of a hand he actually had in the breeding. And yeah, Vader always seems kind of sleepy!

In any case, Growmau5 makes the show for me; I can't really get excited about an episode if he isn't there!

i agree, gimme the mau5 and greengenes all day. love instagram for that, theyre always live, loki too.

anyways, 660...

Well, it was bound to happen eventually - just like building and upgrading PCs, the Gear Acquisition Syndrome has finally kicked in, a year or so after completing the first of my QB120 fixtures. Folks who know me on this forum can probably recall the skepticism I've expressed around "spectrum-tuning", but despite my doubts, I am absolutely open to the idea; hopefully we'll soon see more data on this, as more peeps run the newer products, like the QB96 and the stuff from ChilLED. All that said, I must confess that my main motivation is just the old itch to play around - I'll consider it a bonus if I see measurable, positive results.

So this is what I'm currently working with (times two): 4xQB120s at 3000k, maxing at 250 watts, in a 31"x31" tent. Here's a pic of one of the fixtures, but the two are identical.

The dimensions are 21"x26".

So the first question is: how much 660nm would you add? I've seen recommendations for 8-10% of the total white light, but I don't know if that approach has a strong basis. But using that as a starting point, the first solution that comes to mind would be a single 130 degree QB11 at 20-25 watts, run down the center of the fixture. The biggest problem I see with that is spread. By the end of flower, I have buds practically kissing the 120s, so at that point, the 660nm wouldn't be hitting much of the canopy. (Note to HLG: the size of new far red strips would be perfect, if only I could get them in deep red! They could be attached in a cross formation, but distanced evenly across the light.)

Another option would be individual monos, like those solderless stars. The thing about using those is that I expect I might have to modify my frame by adding little sections of flat bar. I suppose it would be feasible to attach the diodes to the existing frame, but I don't know if doing that would allow me to achieve the optimal spread (though it would have to be better than a single strip run down the center).

Opinions? Suggestions? Corrections? What would you do, and how would you do it?

Thanks, peeps!
I run 13% deep red (660nm peak) and it does seem to give a slight improvement in yield have you considered adding UVA leds to your array?.

Not really that interested in adding UV at all, to be honest. My understanding is that UV LED isn't quite there yet when it comes to price and longevity, and the reptile bulbs would be quite the hassle in my space. Also not super keen on the idea of exposing myself to the radiation! Probably just being paranoid, but the weed I'm growing is plenty strong and tasty, so why take the leap?

I find it odd that people have always said that the catalyst for THC to transfer through the stalk, past the membrane, and in to the head was UV wavelengths.

Interesting I've alwasy wonder if it would be worth it to add some far red to my cob build. How many XP-E 660 starboards do you think i would need for a 3x3 i have 300 watts of light in there now. Also do you think i could use thermal tape to mount it to my frame?
Subcool has said a ton of stupid shit like cold temps make more females when germaniting seeds.

Subcool does not claim that anymore.

Yeah but he said it for year's untill science science proved him wrong. That whole thing about late flowering males being more potent is always wrong. He's a dinosaurs and doesn't even grow anymore he hires people to do it for him.

He also deals with a terminal illness and can barely breathe.
I'm no huge fan of him either, but he's basically an elderly person nowadays and he definitely fought for his right to have access to the plant and he has lived a pretty interesting life.

no amor for amare. i just dont see em anywhere. how much are they @hybridway2

i do want some more red.

growmau5 and co on the roundtable were talking spectrum and more red this week. just a shame only one of em knew what they were talking about. its about time Vader manned up with leds
on which plattform does the round table run these days?
