New Grower - In Early Veg. Advice on getting from here to a 4 plant scrog

Hello! New Grower here. I'm looking to make a 4 plant Scrog in a 4x4. Looking for some advice on how to go from here to a 4 plant scrog filling my 4x4. Questions below.

My Setup:
Space - 4x4 Tent
Medium - Coco w/perlite (30%)
Vent - 6 Inch inline fan, carbon filter
Pots - 4 Pots - Currently 3 gal, will go up to 7 gal
Strains - OG kush x 2, Christmas Cookies, Northern Lights
Lights: 2 LEDs - Will probably add 4 COB kit before flower

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B011NXDOBY/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Images - I've added 6 images.
-Tent setup, 4 plants and LED lights
-New Clones
-4 of OG kush that I've had home for 12 days. I'd like to use this plant to determine how to best set up for a scrog. I think I can repeat any advice on my other 3 to get them all set up correctly

Clones from Dispensary - I bought my 4 clones from my local dispensary. I just picked strains that I like, and clones that looked the best.

Clones - Where to buy - I'm in Los Angeles. I've seen a couple links to places to purchase good genetic clones. Does anyone here suggest that I try out a particular one?

Topping for scrog - As a first time grower I'm just learning about these methods (top, super, monster etc). I got a little ahead of myself and went ahead and topped 3 of my 4 plants. You can see the new tops in the screen shots for the OG Kush. I may have topped them too high, and too early. It was fun to try, and its very exciting to see the new growth. Hopefully I didn't mess them up.
I read through topping posts and some mentioned to do this for a scrog setup: Let a plant veg for 3-4 weeks, then top it directly above the 2nd node. These threads also got into talking about 1,2, or 4 primary colas

Issues I've run into
Heat - For the first 8 days I was hitting temps in the 90s. Generally for a few hours in the middle of the day. I've since added AC, so heat is no longer an issue. However I wonder if having that heat for the first week is going to make the plants preform less. My stems seem to have a lot of red/purple in them.

Red/Purple Stems - I've read this is may be a cal mag issue? I've done 2 waters with light nutes so far, added some cal mag, but there is still red/purple present. Not sure if this was related to the heat

CoCo holding water
- I'm conscious about not over watering. I'm watering by feel/weight. After moving my clones into 3 gal pots, I'm surprised about how slow they are drying out, the coco seems to hold a lot of water for longer that I would have expected. I've gone 3 days between waterings, plants have not had the droopy under water look yet.

How old my clones were - As a novice I found it hard to determine how old my clones were, and if I was to start an actual veg cycle yet. When you don't know whats what, and you see instructions saying things like 'on day 7 you should blah', it seemed very important to know precisely how many days old they were, I freaked out a bit.
I brought home 4 clones, in rockwool plug containers filled with sugar cube sized rockwool also. Upon inspection, all clones had roots showing out the bottom of the plug, so I transported them to solo cups right away. Since they were transferred to 3 gal pots. Roots looked good when removing from solo cups.

Weak initial light - I didn't really have the proper lighting when I set up. The clones were under 4 CFLs for 3 days, then I added a 300w LED to them. Were like that for 12 days. Just added the Platinum 450 to that at day 12. Again, as with heat, wondering of this weak lighting may gimp the potential of the plants.

Questions:
For a scrog setup how should I top my plants?
Assuming I get the first top correct, how and when do I perform a 2nd topping on the same plant? How do I continue topping from there?

How will I know when to stop topping, or when to enter Flower based on my space?

Is it possible that problems in the first week or two (heat, weak light, bad clones?) will gimp my plants? Its early enough that if I've already made large errors that may affect the outcome, I wouldn't be against starting over.

I'm doing all of this to become a competent grower, I know it won't happen overnight. My expectation is to eventually have the ability to grow top shelf meds - Indica, Staiva and Hybrids. I'm in this for the learning as well as the outcome. If anyone has any additional advice on how to get as much knowledge out of this first grow as possible, please pass it on.
I chose the scrog method because it seemed to make sense for me, I don't want to have to manage a lot of different pots, and I'd like to learn about manipulating plants/stressing/ etc as much as possible. Does this sound like a good plan for me? Up for any suggestions.

Thank You
Gerber

Welcome to RIU, and the wonderful world of cultivating the world's most misunderstood and feared medicines!!!

The only 'advice' I can give you or anyone is to read and learn and then apply what you have read and learned to your garden and you cannot fail. Anyways, remember the search tool is your friend...Lots of folks here willing to help a new farmer get up and growing. But at the end of the day your grow will be only as good as the knowledge and work you put into it.

It is always great to ask questions but do not take anyone's advice or opinions and follow blindly. And remember anyone may have a well-known member status…but that means they have posted and responded to many threads and does not always mean well-educated growerz. Do your own research, you will be much happier knowing you have done it for yourself and by yourself. The first buzz you get from your own budz...is by far the BEST high you will ever have!

Do a search using your current question as the keyword(s) and ZOOOM!! Like Wonka's Great Glass Elevator…off you go to tons of threads answering all your questions. Read all the Newbie Central stickies and learn…

Soaking up all that information and sifting through it, is going to take time. You will likely finish your first grow by then. Viola! grow complete and education well under way.

When the 2 shoots I get from the first top, get 2 nodes on them, I top the third. You can top as many times as you wish. For me I top until I am about 10 days or so from 12/12. As a general rule of thumb a plant will double in in height during flowering and it happens pretty damn quickly. The early issues should not have a noticeable effect on your grow. You will want to further your cultivation knowledge to avoid future issues.

BTW...for future reference pics are best taken in plain white light, especially if you have issues come up that need to be seen to get diagnostic opinions.

Thank you for the reply. Here are some pics of one of the plants that I've topped several times now, just after the 2nd nodes. Its starting to bush out, and I've learned a lot about how it reacts after topping. I bought this plant as a clone, I've had it now for 19 days. I'm not sure when I should start my flower cycle, probably in about a week. I'm in a 4x4 so there some space to grow tall, but nothing huge.

How does this plant look overall health wise?

Thanks!

First Time Grow - Quick update

In a 4x4 - On day 24 of VEG

I think I've had a lot of success with topping, probably did some unnecessary/incorrectly, but it looks like I've got a lot of tops now.

I'm still using the same Platinum 450 light - Just turned on veg and bloom light for the last few days of veg
Light only covers 3x3, same size as the drain tray underneath the pots.

Just set up the scrog net and have been training the plants to lay flat
I guess I'll just see how dense the canopy can get, will move the shoots toward the center first, then if I have enough I'll start trying to cover the edges

Flushed and re potted into 7 gal pots, added drain tray so they don't have to move again.

The small girl was purchased 2 weeks behind the larger ones, but I'm just going to see what happens, may have to raise it up to get some light on it.

I'll add some white light pics later tonight. Will also include top/side shots so people can give me some specific advice.

Will be looking for any help along the way. Please let me know if it looks like I'm doing something wrong.

I've made a lot of first timer mistakes already, meaning that I've learned a lot to apply to the next attempts.

Thanks
Gerber

Here are some Pictures of my current status.

I've hit some problems along the way but the ladies seem to be doing pretty good. Based on research, it seem like they should be a bit bigger than they currently are for 27 days of Veg. I got the clones from a dispensary, totally possibly they are terrible.

I've just got the tops through the net holes, I'll start weaving then through as they grow.

I've removed some of the smaller lower branches and leaves to promote upper growth.

How do these look? I'm totally getting my scrog on, I think. Does anyone have any advice? Carry on?

They look good. Dont worry about their size they are doing fine size envoy is a bitch lol. Just keep researching. I personally just switched from soil to hydro but before I did I researched for 6 months before I did and I still had problems. LST will be your best friend at this point. Anyway your doing good keep it up

Thanks for the reply Jack, I appreciate it!

I'm on day 28 of Veg now. I'm starting to weave through the scrog.

Does anyone have any advice on when would be a good time to flip into 12/12? I'm in a 4x4, but only really covering the center 3x3 with my current light. (hopefully adding more, buy may end up having to just use this one).
I've seen posts that mention keeping plants in veg for a week or two to fill up the scrog. I think I've also see posts where people flip to flower 12/12 and then continue to fill out the scrog for the first 10 days or so.

What do you guys think would be best for me?

Thank you.

I'm no expert but if your pics are current I would definitely wait. They will bush out quite a bit more. The rule of thumb is the screen should be 75% full before the flip. Being patient will yeild you far greater results in the end. Just keep doing what you're doing and research. Thats my opinion anyway.

Update:

I've added some current pics from this morning. I am now at day 37 for veg. The plants are filling in very nicely. Even the smaller one is starting to catch up. You can see that the girl in the back left lost a couple good branches. I bent/trained the main stem and it split a bit, then that split basically broke off 2 pretty nice branches. I was able to salvage 4 clones from those lost branches, they are trying to root now, I have my fingers crossed.
My current plan is to water 2 more times, then flush, then start my 12/12 flower, that will be in about 5-7 days. I'm hoping that my clones root by then, I plan on just putting some of them right into the flower cycle as well, I should have space over where the branches broke off.
I just did a foliar spray for the first time, that's why some of the leaves look oily/spotty.
I may have been a bit too aggressive with my topping, Like I topped back to back too quickly. I have a few nodes/branch ends with 4-6 nodes on them, but they aren't really spreading out or growing very quickly
