Mogul Socket CFL's

Have been looking at some new CFL's for supplemental lighting. I currently use PL 55w 4 bulbs fixture and some 35w spiral CFL's for side lighting.

The larger watt CFL's seem to be for mogul (E39) sockets and are not spiral but U shaped. Can I just buy a few mogul sockets and some lamp cord at the hardware store, wire them up and go? Is ceramic recommended?

I have seen reducers which allow you to go mogul > standard. Do they still perform as well as if they were straight into a mogul socket?

Are there any safety concerns with using several mogul sockets? Are they any better than spiral CFL's? Hotter or cooler?

Can I ask any more questions?

Thanks

do whatever is cheapest for you. i would think they would be the same brightness either way you did it since you are drawing same volts and amps.
