Lowryder 2 T5 Grow

Greetings all! Thanks for stopping by. I hope to get some good feedback and advice from some of you more experienced growers. I'm planning on using T5 lights for the whole grow to see how it works out. I'm actually on Day 14 of my grow, so I've included some pics to get you all caught up. I am growing 2 Lowryder 2's that I ordered from Attitude. I was very impressed with their service and will be using them again. I'm only growing 2 of my seeds because it's my first grow and as this will be a learning experience I didn't want to potentially waste more than two of my seeds. My setup includes a 36" x 20" x 64" grow tent, a four bulb 2-foot T5HO light, a 4" exhaust fan, and a 4" phresh filter. I'm using a 6" intake duct. My grow medium is Fox Farms Ocean Forest. I will be adding some CFL's for side lighting later on to supplement my T5's. I started my seeds in Oasis Rootcubes, then took them out of there and planted them in solo cups (mainly due to skepticism and curiosity), then on day 11 I moved them into 2-gallon pots where they will remain for the rest of their days. Well enjoy the pics and feel free to offer advice or ask questions during my journey.

Forgot to formally introduce you all to my girls. The bigger one's name is Alice and the smaller one is Betty Lou. I'm also still getting used to how to use and post messages to this forum. Cheers.

So I have a question for anyone on here with more gardening experience. One of my girls is kind of leaning (see pic below). My question is should I try and correct this, or just leave her be?

Just leave it alone. Get fans moving air across them.

Next time transplant from small into just slightly bigger for faster growth and better vegetation. I used to say that was silly but actually trying it proved me wrong. Thanks to Big Steve who I insulted on the subject and to whom I apologized when I proved him right by actually doing it.

From Solo cup into 1 quart planter, then 1 gallon and so on. Make sure the roots are fully developed in each container before moving, don't just go by a calendar. I used to go from peat plug to 3-gallon and then 18-gallon (I veg them for 60-80 days). No more.

Big Steve is right.

Looks like you're off to a great start, I'm in.
Welcome aboard Baked! Thanks, I'm pretty proud of my girls so far. I checked on them this morning, and they're really starting to smell quite nice. I'll be needing to install my filter here pretty soon I suppose.

+rep to the OP. He/she has obviously done their homework. My advice - KISS. You have so far. Keep it that way and avoid posting "Help my babies are sick".

NOT recommending, just tossing out for thoughts - ion generators work far better than good filters if equally matched to the task. Only drawbacks - greasy deposits so be sure it has a trap and doesn't just deposit it on the floor and they work so damned well that your plant will have ZERO odor if used the last 2 weeks in the immediate area of the plant. Ion generators are good for your mental health as well, especially in wintertime, if properly deployed. Negative ions help create a positive atmosphere. Explaining why the air after a big thunderstorm is so refreshing. Just a thought.

Thanks for the advice hotrod. I will definitely keep this in mind on my next grow. Being as this is my first grow, I figured the less I tamper with them the better. I'll definitely look into an ion generator. Thanks again!

Wanted to share a few pics of my girls today. It's amazing how fast they grow up ain't it? Seems like just yesterday, they were tiny little sprouts haha.

Now for a quick question. Does anyone know what is going on with the stems...

I don't know if you can see it in the pics that well, but it makes me think of a snake shedding it's skin. Is this normal? Thanks for stopping by!

Edit: I'm not sure if I've mentioned yet, but if anyone is wondering I'm on an 18/6 light schedule and am not currently using any nutrients yet.

So I'm reading through other people's journals of similar strains and setups, and I'm noticing that their plants seem much taller than mine at around this same time of their grow. I'm wondering if maybe I'm keeping my light too close to the plants. I was under the impression that you want your lights as close as possible to the plants without burning them, so I keep my lights about 2"-3" above the plants. Should I back them off a bit?
