Growing sideways

You remember those tomato plant set ups where you plant the tomato plant upside down?

I was wondering if you could start a seedling, let it grow a bit… Turn the pot on its side,(obviously, you would have to turn it up right to water or figure something out along those lines… Possibly some watering access holes on the side of the pot) … let the whole plant grow more or less perpendicular to the pot, and then turn the pot upright again ….. kind of like low stress training, but with the plant doing all the work.

Of course, this would probably only work if you had a few plants otherwise, it would be quite a lot of labor.

I just thought it might be less stress on the plant.

obviously, I can just do it and find out for myself. Just wondering if anyone else has tried this and what your results were.

Thanks.

Lst is literally low stress training so the stress is minimal. What he is saying is that if you turn the pot sideways, the plant will spend its entire life trying to grow up. You will still be pulling it down and tying it just the same, but it will be harder to feed/water.

I think the bigger issue with this idea would be every shoot going in the same direction. Not the same as lst, or using a net to spread her out

I used to do this often. I'd let the clone grow a bit then tip the pot on its side for a couple days. Too many problems with dirt falling out making a mess. Now I just pin them down with a tent peg style wire and tie the main to the pot when able to.
