From just the hobby point of view spending a few hours swapping bulbs and making black tar into something light, pleasant and potent is surprisingly fun. With this rig the fractions come out the very best when the temperature is just high enough to accomplish distillation. It is a slow process compared to the short path head. Unlike a short path head the bulbs have no ability to reject the bumping and sputters from the extract so it is also important to raise temps cautiously for this reason too.
However by the third pass through the rig the bumping and sputtering from black tar starting crap subsides and with each pass (as with all distillation) the purity improves. Gram size quantities last me for many many days and the rig makes it possible to glean from my junk any days of medicine. My short path rig is not so good at polishing up such small amounts.
Every method has pros and cons but the kugelrohr method is by far the easiest to run (grab some i
pad music, tea, and do some dabbing while it works) and by far is my go to option for gleaning what little medicine is entrained in the black tar tailings that get produced from my experiements.
