wow you grow bushes man, i just started LST and i started with the suckers from the second set of leaves, and i would like to clone the plant and i was thinking of using the lowest suckers, you said that these are usually week, would this effect it as a clone. basically if i clone using the lowest shoots will it give me a week clone?
i prefer not to use the bottom branches for cloning. i find they tend to be weak and spindly.

i do use my tops for clones though. View attachment 1665094
Well, considering fdd is such a censor freak I guess you'll never know.
Man this guy is a fucking nuisance! ~~Happy Grown:weed:~~

Shouldn't the bottom branches be the thickest, most vigorous growths on a healthy plant? They are the first to receive nutrients, and unless you have a nute def. they should have the best potential for excellence, right?

no. they are produced from single bladed leaves. the plant isn't even fully developed yet. ;)

i like to strip all the lower growth. usually the first 3 to 5 nodes. :)

im trying to learn all of this, myself. i have some LST, sone FIM, some straight topped... one thing i havent done is remove any maristems. first, even the thinnest branches are producing some popcorn, and some icy trim for hash. several grams a branch. now, im not arguing with you.. thats now why im here.. my brain tells me that if the plant is healthy in the first place with healthy roots, the top growth wont be increased by cutting lower growth. a perfect plant will have roots and stalk to absorb all of the water and nutes to all of its branches. why waste pot? now i DEFINITELY see the importance of topping and training to increase yield... thats only too easy to see.

good post, tho. pretty plants, and some +reps for ya.

Why is uncle bens thread closed? It makes you look bad when you close his and start your own. Why would I rip off my lower branches? Do you wish you didn't recommend that to people or have you been doing this for years?

I don't like that lock symbol. What happened to America fuck yeah? Free speech and press should mean something to you when you partake in citizenship in a country that believes in it.

i have been doing this for years. there may even be an old thread around here somewhere. i remove my lower branches because they get hella long, and spindly, and offer less quality then i seek. they also get in the way when i water.

it was NOT me who locked that thread.

Fdd, is there a thread of your soil mix and setup? You got some awesome plants bro! Did you vegg those before putting them in the ground?

yeah, i just keep them on myself so i can clone them. i like the spiny shit down there, cas they root more easily when i need fast, fast clones :hump:

My bottom 3-5 are not the slightest bit weak or spindly, ever. Maybe you're doing something wrong? I cannot even begin to express how horrified I am that noob growers are being given such terrible advice! Do you work for a seed company?

i'd think i was crazy, if half the people here weren't agreeing with me.

don't say "it can't be done", simply say "I can't do it". ;)

this plant was started from seed. it is NOT unhealthy. the first branches are thin and weak. as the branching continues it gets thicker and the node spacing gets tighter.

how can you get your "strongest branches" off of nodes that don't even produce fully developed leaf blades? :?

the bottom SIX(6) branches/leaves/nodes were removed from this plant. i see no ill effects. :weed::-P

just because you haven't done it, doesn't mean it can't be done. ;)

this is a great post, right to the point.
i allways take the lower growth off, helps with air flow,+ i like to pick my plants up by the stalks,i think
it helps with gnat control, but thats just me.

it makes more sense if youre growing from seed, sure, but i dont think that was in the initial post. if youre growing from clone and you toss the lower maristems all youre doing is throwing away pot, but with seeds, yah theres a few broom bristle like wispy branches.

yeah, clones get different treatment. they can grow crazy branching from the start. i have some that are just rooting, i may be able to add them to this thread in the near future. :)

?????,what you talking bout willis....
yes, your plant is healthy. never said it wouldnt be, so i dont know what youre proving, other than my point by throwing up that pic. your plant would have been just as healthy, and had more bud on it. not trying to be an ass, dude.
