DIY Stand for a Flood Tray

:blsmoke:I have experimented with a few different tables in my grow area and posted a build for a flood and drain table using pond liner for the bottom of the table. I have used a few different material for draining the water away from the plants, you can not build one with all the enginered drainage that is in the flood tables they sell, most hydro shops will even drill the holes for the flood and drain fitting for you. A lot less messing around with the construction. SOO.. here it is, this one is a 2' by 4' tray ( actually it just under 43"). For the outside of the table I used 5/4 wolmanized porch boards, the rest is just 2x4's. I cut the necessary parts and then did a check to make sure it is the right size. Here is what the bottom looks like. Then I temporarliy installed some blocks to set the depth of the legs and installed them. The cross pieces stabilize the table and give me a place for the res. I glue caster in place, here is the frame all together and then we just lay the tray in it, stick a fork in it I am done. VVbongsmilie

Nice, how do I give +k here?
I don't know what happened, I thought I posted a response, it doesn't show, sorry. I am not sure about + k, if you mean plus rep, you do that by clicking an the little scale of justice at the top right hand side of the post. This will bring up a dialog box for your comment. Most of the folks like it when thyt know who repped them, I just put VV at the end. :blsmoke:VV

Do you know if they sell a combo kit with the ebb-flow tray and 12" square pots that fit perfectly? +rep
I haven't seen a combo flood and drain (ebb and flow). I have seen them for aero setups not 12" pots. Unless you have a fairly high ceiling you might not want to use pots that big. VV:blsmoke:

Oh wow, I wish I'da thought of that, you must be a genius, now roll it around the room and stick a res under the table. You can just skip my threads, I don't think its funny or smart. VV:blsmoke:

I'm going to be building a 3' x 3' version of this same thing. The table at my local hydro shop was like $190...

Thanks for the thread. Would you recommend grow bags and hydroton as a medium?

With all of the things I have tried you would pick two things I haven't tried.lol I haven't used. The grow bags, you would have to be able to pickup both sides of the bag if you wanted to move it especially with hydroton, no reason why they wouldn't work, some folks put the plants into the hydroton without anything around them, I like to be able to move mine around easily, so I use pots.
I have 2 of the 3x3 size tables, total including the res and modification, pump and air stone would be about that $190.00 figure. VV:bigjoint:

LOL, the $190 was just for the stand!

I'm going to be lollipoping and might either use solo cups or grow bags. The grow bags were pretty sturdy and we used them for gorilla grows outdoors where I use to be from.

no disrespect but i dont roll my tables around my room..... too many to move.... and with the blocks if u use a 8x8x16 and a 4x4x4 it gives u the perfect height for a 50 gallon rubbermaid... just trying to help btw how'd it look moving all that wood and shit in ur house :) neighbors think u remodeling? saw the drill and saw too does that make much noise?

There is nothing illegal or odd about small construction projects being done in the middle of the day. You're making shelves for your old lady or something. "Hey, I had to build something with all these power tools the misses bought me!" Besides, it's not like you'll have to rebuild it every month. Just my opinion.

I really don't understand why anyone that is not considering this type of project would want to stop and critisize some one that did the project and posted it to help other that are considering it.
I live in Michigan, we just passed our Medical Marijuana Law. I am on the 'Training Commitee' for MMMA, and these projects are being considered for classes for patients and caregivers.
If you take the time to look you will find that 7 of the 10 threads I have started in over 2 years here are DIY threads. None of them are originals, I followed some thing I had read or seen. I don't ever remember feeling a need to publically critisize one of the hundreds of folks whose information I have read. Can you explain why you feel this need?
By the way (that is an eraser) I don't think you are hurting my reputation, yours may be in question.:bigjoint: VV

at risk of derailing the thread a little, i read that you use coco in your flood and drain (in pots). this is something i want to do.
do you need to flood the pot all the way, or does the coco wick up the water/nutes?
how long do you flood for (once a day i believe)

No, you should not flood the tray to the top of the pots, 2 1/2 to 3" is sufficient. The only medium that hold more water than coco is rockwool. I flood 2 times, take 4 minutes to flood, 5 to drain. The length of the flood is dependant on the size of pump, the lowest I use is 396gph.
And there isn't any way you could derail this by asking questions. Hope this helps VV
