Cookin' Up Some Soil

So I finally decided to try out sub's soil mix. I got everything I needed for half a batch, came home, mixed it all up, and threw it in the $30.00 trash can I'd just bought .. Fuck you Lowe's lol.. The soil has been cookin' for 6 days or so andl has a good earthy smell and the myco webs are starting to form already. Everything has been swell until I forgot about the humic that I did not purchase :wall:. So today I went back to the hydro store and got some granular humic acids. Is there anyway to mix it in without having to dump all the soil out just to mix a couple tablespoons of humic in? You're suggestions are greatly appreciated.

mix humic by hand best you can. you have to dump everythig and mix in 2 weeks anyways...

True that sounds like a plan.

Just realized I wasn't paying all of my attention to the ingredients when mixing up the soil because I believe I put 2.5 lbs of azomite instead of 1/2 a cup... wondering if I already fucked up the soil ... Guess I'm going to have to play it out and see how it works.. :/

danggggg 2.5 is a LOT.... I have def seen some people increasing the amount of azomite, and seeing better results, but, thats kind of a big difference. I made a similar mistake on my second batch, but right after I poured it on top i realized, and managed to scoop out an acceptable amount.

I'd say in 2 weeks put a shit plant in it and see if it dies immediatly. if so, look for azomite specific problems with the death. might just have to make this into a full batch of supersoil hehe, and add additional ammendments sans azomite.

I know right, got me a little nervous about using the soil lol. I tried doing some research and couldnt find anything about too much azomite burning plants. Seems like it would take a while for it all to beeak down, besides the biggest amount of nutrient is 1.6% calcium. Im hoping it was just mostly a waste of azomite and not a waste of a batch of soil. Thanks for your suggestions man I will be testing it out before using it with my space bombs.

People on another organic forum recommend adding up to 4 cups of rock dust(azomite) per cubic foot of unammended soil and 6 cups was where diminishing returns set in. Azomite breaks down slowly therefore it should not do any harm.

I'm pretty sure Azominte isn't goint to hurt your plant at all. I would say go for it. Or put like an inch of it at the bottom of one of your vegging pots and see if they trip out and die.

rock dust and azomite are very different things...

from the azomite website: "Is AZOMITE[SUP]®[/SUP] a rock dust?
No, it is volcanic in origin, rather than glacial. It is a mineralized, compacted volcanic ash. Chemically, AZOMITE[SUP]®[/SUP] is a hydrated sodium calcium aluminosilicate (HSCAS) containing minerals and trace elements."

i would highly recommend 4-5 cups of rock dust (glacial rock dust, basalt rock dust, etc.) per cuft of soil. I cannot speak to azomite...2.5lbs seems like a LOT. i do not know the rate at which azomite breaks down...

just wanted to clarify that rock dust and azomite are different and therefore serve different purposes in the soil...
