Choosing a rosin press

My strain I like the sauce on the leaves the terps. Think to myslef what I could taste if I turned it to live rosin. I want as much of those terps as possible. I really did watch that vid like 3 times.

Ok thanks! Helps a lot and amazes me how much I read but nothing this clear cut. You must been doing this for a while, thanks for sharing your method.

Not that long but once you get the hang of it, it’s not that bad really. I also have had failures but those were learning experiences. A good idea is to do a test wash on a mason jar and see if the strain dumps the heads easily. You can put like 5g with ice and water and wait a few minutes for the plant matter to hydrate and then shake it for like 10 min thren watch the heads settle at the bottom. If there is a good amount, then go ahead and do a full run. If you dont see a lot of trichomes, then just smoke the buds since they wont be good for hash

So what temps/rh you recommend? (a fridge works, noted) I may not have a fridge space for this. How do you know its dry/ready to press?

Can a strain be good for flower rosin but not bubble rosin? It comes out brittle at low temps and half way see through clear.

This my area 51 tent a 2x2. Super close to harvest, taking cuttings this weekend. Separating the yield per tent to get an idea of results per enviorment. Ill have about 20oz ill press and dab that will give me time to harvest this and make my first real hash.

Itll help take my garden to next level. I vaped live resin for over a year so flower rosin is a step down. Cant believe not applying the wet weight to math kept me from doing this.

Will try that little hash jar trick maybe a week early on a ripe top site. I could then get everything in line for fresh frozen and make my first live rosin.

It would be a huge decision last minute and may just leave it for next round with plenty of time to thoroghly learn what to do.

I mean, as close to 60f/60% as possible but as long as your not too far off youll be fine. Just if you dry it too hot like more than 80f you may lose some terps but nothing that will ruin the product

Just keep amazing me with how close I am to taking it to that level, I already use a dry space that meets close to that. Aside from no vent in the bathroom so no control over temps but tends to be below 70f. Cool dry basement conditions.

I use humitifier to keep around 60 with inkbird. Yea Id be going from live resin from store to something they cant even sell for 10 a gram. $20 if lucky, usually 60-100$ its insane.

Probably supply and demand. So not any time soon will they have what I steadily could supply myself, and with no freeze dryer? Its waiting on me to just do some leg work and produce.

i have one question.how much does the bag itselfe absorb? how much do you lose from fabric just sucking in
Nug smasher often drops videos of yileding 80% or more if I recall so some where upwards of that. Not anything like whats left behind from flower, lots get stuck in the bud and bag. And need more bags.

I see lots of videos of the puck being squeezed nearly gone and see through in the middle. I wouldnt count on those results at first try probably a good 50-70% yield.

They say shake/leaf dont press well. I rather dry sift it and press that and asap as I lost yield waiting a day to press the rest. I got 32% return off 6gs the first time.

Maybe washing shake/leaf would make it yield higher for some reason, nug smasher says dont press dry sift. I didnt understand that and still dont, I got results that turned me on to hash rosins.

My guess is when you sieve it you split all the heads open and just need heat and pressure to extract it. I still barely understand. I just used common sense, whats left behind is what you just filtered out.

But ya it could be from a slight different ratio of strains or it just goes stale, molasses like and doesnt flow the same. Darkens each day not pressed. My best guess why I lost yield.

I didnt have anything worth worrying about left behind in the bag nor do I see in other press videos. They wipe it off on the parchment but I tried getting more than tht off it just was too sticky.

I do wonder how the terps from fresh frozen or even cured weed carry over through the wash. If youre just removing heads.. Are there terps inside the heads too? I didnt think so. Is it just a saucy putty of hash that is residual on the heads?

Just curious question. I understand how live resin does it, the sauce ends up in the other side but with washing your throwing all that water away. At what micron does terpes get filtered out at, does it? I thought they were water soluble.

The volatile terps will off gas when drying the buds; the hash should be super terpy; when you press the hash, it will cure and budder up, then you whip it real good, then the terps will begin to separate from the thca and you whip it again; ends up in a budder consistency very nice to work with and dab…

this is fresh frozen live rosin after curing in the jar… if i dont touch the jar in a few days the terps pool up and then i whip em back together. Or take a dab of the thc portion dipped in the sauce.

Terpenes are located within the glandular trichome.

Ok so they have info on bubble too, of course! Yea it explains what to look for with drying completely. It says 35rh and 50F for two weeks though, how long would 68F / 60rh take?

Il want a freeze dryer for sure I vape like 8gs a week so I benefit having a perpetual schedule where it keeps coming in. Dabbable right after collect though its full character can take 24-48 hrs of sitting room temp to butter.

While tempting Il have to get more keen on the process and try it next round which Ill know if I can open up one space for just bubble and some day a new strain. I get sick of them after about a year.

In this case maybe 2 years since I put so much work to find them. I got lucky this time. Even then its not the best, most growers probably wouldnt care for my strain.

As for pressing dry sift thats old my first two kief presses only yielded .1gs from 2gs kief each. Idk if thats strain related or what I speculated that it just becomes less fluid when pressing.

Oh I pressed like 1.5gs of a bad strain that didnt yield anything but thats too little kief. Also learned from someone that the heads depending on strain, the best are ones loaded with oils.

Will be pressing dry sift right after my flower rosin. Will see how that goes. Like 14gs again maybe more.

If u got so little from 2g of sift, then that sift was full of plant material (contaminants) and not trichome heads. If u were to clean up the sift via static tek, you would have the same results (you’d have a pile of contam, and about .1g of actual heads… some greasy strains don’t wash well. I had a hazy lady x greese monkey that was super frosted but when i washed like 5 oz, i got literally 0 hash lol. And when I tried pressing the flower, id get an oily mess which couldn’t be removed from the parchment paper after leaving in the freezer for days cause it was too runny. Usually the ones that budder up as flower rosin are strains that will wash good
