Never seen that before but whatever it is isn't good as those black roots are dead. If it's spreading you should probably consider excising the effected area from the root ball, cutting clean tissue to avoid spreading the "infection" or leaving any.

Thank you. I cut out around that area and squirted in some food-grade aloe that said "kills 99% of microbes" I'm almost out of H2O2, but that might be the next thing I try. I had three intertwined plants in one 6" net pot. One turned out to be a male, so cut that out at the stalk. But headless roots remain, just to complicate things.

Hydro guard for the win, haven’t had a single question about the roots since. Best of luck and if your temps are within range, you may want to completely isolate the infected plant as to prevent further spread if you have other plants close by. Best of luck
