8x8 Grow Room...1000 double ended HPS or 2x600 Hps?

Not sure if I should go with the 1000 watt HPS or 2 600 watt HPS. Was told I'd get more light from the overlap of both 600. Is this correct? My Grow room is 8x8 and roughly 7 ft high.

Between the two ya you'd do better with two 600's you'll light whole area instead of just the middle

Thanks King. I was hoping the 1000 but oh well. I'm alittle concerned about the heat out put of the combined 600's. Obviously gonna be more than the 1000 since I'll have 2 of everything ballast etc... Think it would produce acceptable light if I got a nice parabolic hood? Or is my footprint just to big?

I'm going to be running it over an 8 plant Waterfall style RDWC.

With 7 foot ceilings DE is no bueno.

Shit a DE is alot of heat and 2 600's can be air cooled easily unlike DE plus like @Stephenj37826 stated ceilings too low 9ft minimum for DE's and preferably 10ft ceilings. They put out a lot of heat and light need the head space for em. Place ballasts outside of tent as well

Air cooled 600s, Run them close. If you cant get that, I mean....COBs are pretty cool right now...

The ceiling height isnt exactly accurate, I ran 2ft Off my whole grow. Zero issues.

I mean I grow 6-7ft plants so that puts them at 9-10ft ceilings which has bulbs 10" lower than ceiling so ya 2ft off plants like you said I'll agree there

id do 4 ACDE hoods at 600-750W each, then you could still air cool them. they work fine w/ 7 ft ceilings

Great input guys thanks! So no double. Bout to put in an order for 2 600 watt combos. Trying to find a reflector with the least amount of depth so I don't lose any more ceiling height. So far I've only come up with the regular glass tubes with the reflective wing. Smallest I found a 6 1/2 inches deep… Does that sound about right?

...I was waiting for this. 8x8=64 sq ft, that's a lot more real estate than 1200W of any HID can handle.

I like your solution, but it will be hot. In a tent I'd suggest sealed and vented hoods. I think they make such hoods for DE lamps.

Of course COB LED would also be a great choice but that's serious cash up front. Maybe after a few runs under the light bulbs...

I'm not up to date on the cob lighting. Can you recommend a thing affordable that could take the place of a 1000 watt HPS? Thanks!

you can replace a 1000W hps with 9 cobs running at 75W each. i have this running in a tent w/excellent results

It's an 8x8 space but it's not a tent setup. Converted over my basement to grow in. Really private and temps stay at about 60 year round...without the heat from grow lights. I'm hoping to keep temps down as much as possible. I haven't grown in over a decade but I used to have all kinds of problems with heat in my 3x3x6 in the past. Just trying to study as much as I can given all the new tech on the market. Running into a lot of clashing opinions as well due to people having their own strengths with certain things.

Looks great CobKits! Maybe after I get a few grows under my belt! Sell my old ish to my little bro and upgrade. Thank you for the breakdown! Took me over a month to get a good Waterfall style RDWC schematic and partslist to work off of and I'm not even happy with the one I got. People don't seem to wanna give up the info so readily!

I grow 3-4 ft and yield the same, unless you have side lighting you're vegging too long. Light gets blocked by a single leaf, check my signature. Next time I'll use the sun to demonstrate

I veg for 36 days from clone......that's too long? Lol I did this commercially rooms of 180 plants pull over 2 a light everytime
