Butane of choice

If you got $5000 in extraction equipment, closed loop, recovery, etc...

This post is kinda not meant for you...

This is for people making oil at home, and trying to do it safely... You are talking about lab-processed.

Yes, if you have several that kind of setup, even at home... its still a lab.

Thats like saying "You don't even need a vac chamber"
No... you just need a closed loop system, cold trap, recovery tank, vac pump (wait, what?? But you just said...)

You either spend $200 on a chamber/pump setup, and purge the fuck out of it for days... or spend a few grand, and make the process faster, and more ...well... fuel efficient.
What does closed loop system have to do with how much solvent is left after the process, that just recovers your butane and makes it a safer process, they still have to hit it with heat to get the rest out. It's no different then open blasting except safer and you can Dewax

I'm not making this post for you, I'm making it for the readership, many of whom can afford to at least build their own systems, using information that I've also posted.

A $200 vacuum chamber does not remove the mystery oil, which means it stays in your concentrate. You could however build your own cold trap for less than $200, but would need to purchase a recovery pump costing less than a $800. Let's round it off at less than a $1000, not the $5000 you are tossing about.

You can also buy Instrument Grade butane and skip the distillation and live with what little mystery oil there is. Your choosing to use lighter butane and not distill it first, pretty much sticks you with what ever quality LPG you can lay hands on. I trust that you weren't hoping otherwise.

I provided you with a link outlining the quality of those choices, as tested by Skyhighler. If you don't like my professional solution of cleaning the LPG, or the out of the box choices outlined by Skyhighler, you are beyond my help and you are right about my dialog not being for you, but for the other readers.

May I ASSume that you alone are consuming your own concentrate and not providing it to others.

Was my comment before this right about the closed loop system?

Colibri is all I use, although I find it's getting harder and harder to find (Ontario, Canada). It always gives me very pure, very clean results.

I've heard good things about Puretane (only available in Canada as others have pointed out) and seen good results but I've never personally run with it.

I've heard people talk down on the purity of Colibri and how Puretane is significantly better, but in my personal opinion, this is nonsense. It doesn't get much better than 99.9994% purity (Colibri purity), no matter what you're doing to your product.

I tried using Ronson butane once in my early days of running BHO and I learned why you should never do this the hard way after having to toss over 7 Grams of otherwise excellent oil because it smelled and tasted strongly of Garlic. Many lower quality butane brands contain Mercaptans/Thiols which are used intentionally to give the product a foul odor/taste and discourage consumption. Colibri and Puretane are the only two brands I personally know for a fact are mercaptan-free.

Cheers!

You are correct in asserting that neither open blasting or closed loop provide a product without need for subsequent purging. You can produce product with a closed loop that requires less subsequent purging.

Closed loops mostly just use less butane, are safer, less polluting, and allow you to remove mystery oil first.

I'll have to look more into this mystery oil removal. I recently got some Live SHO pretty sure was bubble hash or dry sift rosin squished. It's not as terpy as the live res sauce but it def smokes smoother
