Vero 29 3500K "D" question

Just ordered 4 Vero 29 3500K "D" type chips (BXRC-35E10K0-D-73) with the HLG-240-2100 drivers to power it.

This is to cover my 4x2 tent.. Just went over the datasheet (like an idiot..) and realized that this will make for about 320w at around 52000lm.

Is that even enough, or should i try to contact the seller to get the "B" bin on 3000k chips (BXRC-30G10K0-B-73)?

I've been growing in a 2x2 under 2 Mars Hydro 300's getting what i'd call "acceptable" yields, For me this is a major and spendy upgrage so I want to be getting the most bang for my buck.

Thanks in advance for any input!

20161010_145003.jpg If I remember correctly you can fit 3 of those cobs on one HLG-240-2100 driver. All you'd need to do is order 2 more cobs and you'll have 480w which would be overkill for a 2'x4' tent but not by a whole lot. I made a 400w light for a 2'x4' although they were a gen 6 Vero 29 so slightly less efficient.
Just get the 'A' version driver and dim using the screw on the driver or get the B version and either build or purchase a potentiometer to dim with. You could do like I did and take 2 HLG-240 drivers and a 50k ohm potentiometer and wire them together so they dim at the same time.

Danielson999 - I was considering going the 6 COB route down the line somewhere, so purchased the driver to match.

How much do you think it'll be under-powered with the 4 COBs?

I ask because a 400w HPS is typically recommended by my local grow shop for a 4x2 tent, so 320W of LED seems like a pretty good start. I also have the Angelina-W reflectors coming with, so that'll help with the overall PAR watts to the grow area...

GrowGorilla,

Thanks for the reassurance. Most of my experience is with Marine aquarium use - Cree XR-Es - which should tell you how long ago that was!

320w is great. I wanted a bit of overkill so I made mine 400w and I have about 35v left on each driver, you'll have about 45v left on each of yours. You'll still get 80w a cob. If you wanted a perfect fit (but no room for expanding) the HLG-320 driver perfectly fits 4 Vero 29's and uses almost 100% of the drivers voltage.

Anything more then 40 watts per square foot with cobs is overkill.
Do you have saltwater aquarium?
I did, about 6 years ago. It didn't really recover from a move though. Pity too, I had some nice acanthestrea, a trach brain, crocea clam and some nifty sps corals. Also a super outgoing yellow watchman goby. One day I might do it again, once I have time/money.

That's the shit thing about having a legit need for an MMJ license: it's fucking spendy and you can't really get by without it.

I'd love to have a reef aquarium. They are pretty awesome. Live coral is pretty cool. Growing up I had freshwater aquariums. Piranhas and Snakeheads.

Haven't seen snakeheads in at least 15 years. They're on the banned list up here because they're so invasive. I used to do freshwater to. Malabar pufferfish (carinotetraodon travancoricus) are my hands down favorite freshwater fish. A heavily planted tank with a handful of those is subtle yet captivating, because they're so curious/inquisitive about their surroundings.
