Salutations fellow vaporists,

I launched this venture of mine quite a long while ago and now here's the outcome:

Using VaporGenie Bronze Sherlock

Using VaporGenie Classic-style Aluminium
My "Lava" concept behind combines 2 different heater technologies into 1 single implementation and hence i shall refer to the "Bi-Energy" niche as defined here: 1) "Plan-A" Electromagnetic Induction Heat; 2) "Plan-B" Clean Butane Burning (fall-back option). The "B" in "Plan-B" stands for butane and i got this part solved to my satisfaction, "Plan-A" though remains an idea still translating in much too little real-life experience so far, mainly because it depends on the Curie effect which essentially disengages the transformation of electromagnetic power into heat as the idealized "susceptor" reaches its target temperature (set by metallurgic formulation, e.g. heating is self-limited within the Hybrid Core by going magnetically "transparent" once Pre-Heated)...

My "Plan-B" only opens a window on what "Plan-A" has to offer, which in principle can be described as "packetized" injection of energy into a Hybrid Core that functions like a thermal bottle - with socio-acceptability and Harm-Reduction in mind... That revised (composite) core exploits transitions between insulation and heating based on aerial movement, etc.

Below this is how i envision implementation of the concept; please take note the intellectual property for "Plan-B" belongs to VaporGenie as they refer to it in fig. 11/12 of their registered patent (US 7434584 B2), while "Bi-Energy" emerged as a fantasy of mine which depends on their thechnology nonetheless. Consequently the Lava concept can only become a reality in the hands of VaporGenie who once informed me they don't want to be bothered with it, unfortunately. That won't stop me from keeping hope VG will want to add an IH mode to their patent as i once suggested via e-Mail, long ago...

In any case i'm in favour of doing more with less so that's why this new conceptual edifice crumbles as soon as VG's primary sparkle is taken away; this animation illustrating IH mode should help to understand how, more exactly:

Egzoset's Near-Symetrical Bi-Energy Lava Capsule
In "Plan-B" 1 Hybrid Core works as the Heat Source and the other as a simple particles filter (if it's a "DeLuxe" configuration)... In "Plan-A" both Hybrid Cores are being powered and this makes it desirable to heat from both sides, naturally...

Using 2 slightly different Hybrid Cores it should become possible to implement continuous analog control of heat in the Bowl working as the Mixing Site... Adjustment would be equivalent to a "boost"/"purge" feature that affects heat only during the Pause intervals in Micro-Bursting mode:

The red bars represent the Pre-Heating phase which is when the Hybrid Core is powered. Once a "Heat Charge" has been loaded the blue flame (or IH driver) is disengaged and then the intended vaporist inhalation can finally begin:

In retrospective i find this pulsed consumption mode is reminescent of the pumping action with traditional pipes...

Etc.

Addition of magnetic poles in the central Bowl-Ring would possibly support self-stirring as well as audio signalling combined to tap-command operation (no keys, no display), e.g. with disabled persons in mind if desired. Using Curie alloys for the Bowl-Ring and Flame-Catchers (TC0 ~ 135 °C) it should even be possible to "potentialize" the Release/Transport Agent with Inlet Moisturization ("Plan-A" would use an auxiliary distilled water boiler/evaporator implemented inside the Flame-Cathers using moist cotton, for example, while "Plan-B" is already proving the value of super hot H2O and CO2 gasses generated in the corona of a blue flame)...

Etc., etc.

Good day, have fun!! :peace:

Salutations everyone,

First of all i must use the present opportunity to express my thoughts on the Evoke from Loto Labs, because of how they interacted with their donators after their successful so-called "crowd-funding" initiative, more exactly, euh...

Hummm... Electrical contacts for a wireless (induction "susceptor") heater element!! Oh and just NO flux-concentrator in a portable (battery-operated!...) design, hey? Really?!?...

o_O

M'well, i've had time to reflect on the subject since 2010 and i figure if i were to ever get involved in some "Plan-A" experiments somehow then that's most likely how i'd want to start it:

(IH-compatible handle made of glass, synthetics and aluminium - e.g. non-magnetic)

(Fault-tolerant power under stepping-motor assy. posing as Flux Concentrator/Shield)

(Another creative fantasy image using old stepper motor assy. to say it in a glimpse)

Hummm... I got to wonder all the sudden: how would that fit inside an Evoke??

:-?

But lets not bother with another type of hobby that involves going through yet another ambitious project!

Their plate is ful as it is, so i'd personally just prefer to depend on 3rd-party ready-made commercial products (Bolt Buster, NoFlame Plus, Silver Bullet Super Pod Hot Roller Heater, Ego Boost Professional Set and similar), etc. In other words that's portable as in transportable but certainly not "pocket-sized".

On another hand the Loto Labs design only needed to look "real", because the jobs alone were good enough already IMO. Which would make sense as to the sustained efforts avoiding the need to provide fair explanations to a patient (gullible) community of supporter$, despite contradictions never being resolved, etc.

To conclude my diatribe on this mirage pretending to be real, if that was never meant to be more than a job with an expensive pizza in Italy as the bonus then i say maybe this communications operation wasn't such a bad "Crowd-Funding" adventure as it is. Good for them, euh... M'well, try Domino Extravaganza next time!

:!:

So...

It's been a long while since my 2016 multi-purpose kit. I thought i had found my final "Sweet-Spot" back then, in October, but i later found i still could perform a bit of additional tweaking, in a sustained effort to improve my demanding sense of satisfaction... This time the perfectionist in me has succeeded in refining the definition of a Sweet-Spot once more, though this truly has to be a last contribution simply because my antennas went blind (long story - shortly put i've reached the boundaries of my intended Applications Range):

(Customized VG Pipe vs Micro-Bursting)

Above that was after having a "pepper" toke, almost regular compared to those 2 contrasting samples of similar intense/extreme occurences below, but more comparable to dabbing i would think...

(The "Pepper"-grade effect...)

(Then the presumably Dab-like "Punch-in-the-Face" effect...)

Now here's how i tweaked my Hybrid Core configuration until the pumping action felt "stealthy" enough, once further moddifications of the Hybrid Core thickness ratios all started to seem vaguely equivalent while the difficulty level reflected simultaneously interactions with thermo and aero dynamic factors, etc., whatever. And the pipe only works if things are set in motion (convection mode), otherwise it's useless.

Nonetheless this matter can be considered as "SOLVED" (as i've already asked on most other boards, by the way).

Please keep in mind this is a 2-vaporizers-in-1 strategy, integrated as a "Bi-Energy" design where each mode ("Plan-A"/"Plan-B") can co-exist simultaneously (and even work in complementarity!):

(Final 4-20 All-Purpose "Basic" configuration of 2017)

So i'm glad my "Plan-B" finally appears FINALIZED and it's been long enough, really; after all my initial operator difficulty (which triggered the rest of it) happens to go back to the spring of 2012 (...): i just couldn't operate my VG Classic without burning inside, so i gave it away within the week of purchase and didn't retry before the next year.

:o

Hence here it is at last, corrected/improved, keeping an eye on "Harm-Reduction" and social acceptability, etc., etc...

My Conclusion "4-20" All-Purpose "Basic"/"Agile" cfg.:

Code:
3.34 mm thick x 13.43 mm (dia.) SiC Front Puck
1.00 mm thick x 12.46 mm (dia.) 17-Holes Metal Disc
2.37 mm thick x 11.71 MESH-60 Brass-Wrapped Top-of-Bowl SiC Puck
26.27 mm tall/deep Sphere (wood)
10.22 mm tall/deep Flame-Catcher Funnel/Ring
15.64 mm tall/deep Monobloc
The mid-strong throttle Blue Flame replaced VG's yellow-flame quite nicely (though i maintained compatibility with BIC jetables right to the end) while my ritual feels more and more "stealthy"-like as i gradually perceive similitudes relative to traditional smoker pipe pumping - as that when i watched my uncles smoking, relaxed in their rocking-chair, etc.

It's all about Pre-Charging a small Thermal Bottle intended for a tiny cannabic bowl, so the fire is brief and hence it's far from obvious what the difference was at a distance. At least at 1st sight. The goal is to inject sufficient heat to "charge" the core while also accounting for a fraction of the heat still escaping into the cannabic bowl: a shorter heat-pulse works best because the bowl then has no time to disperse heat deep within its vegetal substrate, etc. (e.g. it stays cooler below the surface), though it's pre-heated too in the process.

Anyway practice makes perfect, timing if the key. :dunce:

Also, please pay attention to the fact that inhalation force should be kept at its most minimal (yet functional) level, right before flame extinction will risk to result from the accumulation of hot gases inside the Flame-Catcher aperture (i bet this should please the "purists" even further, by the way!)...

Once the fire has been removed much stronger inhalation must take place in order to displace the "Heat Charge" into its target Cannabic Bowl, so that the awaited Vaporization Process can begin. Sometimes even trying harder pulses near the end of a toke, thinking the core gets depleted of energy very fast. YMMV again!...

Ah... And there's also an EXPERIMENTAL leftover i'd call my "DeLuxe"/"Fatty" Extractor/Medicator cfg., m'well if i were to push this effort even further...

My next-step suggestion: "3.33 • 0.95 • 2.45-" (10-15)

Code:
3.37 mm thick x 13.67 mm (dia.) SiC Front Puck
0.95 mm thick x 12.47 mm (dia.) 17-Holes Metal Disc
2.45 mm thick x 11.81 MESH-60 Brass-Wrapped Top-of-Bowl SiC Puck
It might serve as a complementary reference point with my present/definitive "Basic" Sphere cfg., to initiate yet another generation of appl.-range probing iterations, trying to identify a "finer-grain" candidate until it's thought the ultimate multi-purpose Sweet-Spot is found. M'well, that's the spirit anyway.

;-)

In retrospective i'd recommend a Metal Disc thickness that ideally varies between 0.9 to 1 mm; this component needs to be cut from some fancy particle-collecting pipe "filter" accessory which i came to refer to as the "UFO Element", in fact it was found in a local Montréal commerce a couple years ago (just try 514-985-xxxx if you feel lucky today!)... The 17 Holes measured #53 in diameter as i recall, very little details were available at the counter.

As for my Top-of-Bowl SiC Puck that would be the absolute minimum already, any thinner than this would require a more efficient Top-of-Bowl Brass Screen, which in turn would likely require changes inducing a need for even more iterations and so on, etc... Too bad, my opportunity "window" is nearly over, m'well... That was a "5-years" mission, "to boldly to where no man has gone before"! Mission accomplished!!

:leaf:

So please lets declare (my "Plan-B" part) as fully SOLVED.

Good day, have fun!! :peace:

Another irresistible urge of mine: more day-dreaming, fueled by the view of DynaVap's CCD Screen (hypothetically to serve as a replacement for my 17-Holes Metal Disc in a Lava-like concept - please welcome the "DynaVapsule"!)...

Egzoset's IH DynaVapsule (2017-May-26) [400x400] .PNG

This is to illustrate a 3-ch. Mating Junction system sealed by O-Rings à la DynaVap, auxiliary boilers/evaporators for distilled water (or even e-Liquid perhaps), a composite rotating adjutsment via antagonist/complementary 180 ° valves, "defocussing" of the convection heat vectors...

:P

...more update.

DynaVap (VapCap) - Circumferential Compression Diffuser Screen [1024x1024] .GiF
Pay special attention to the radial layout suggesting a simple solution to avoiding focussed over-heat in the core, while more "defocussing" shall take place in a capsule's bowl as a result of the 90° direction change of convection currents: e.g. improved thermalization. Last but not least, i can easily see 9 "Tuned-Forks" in it so i got to wonder about some tap-command + audio/haptic/kinesthetic user-interface (for enhanced inclusivity!)... Possibly even with the bonus of ultra-sonic bowl-stirring to prevent formation of a "cake" between tokes (m'well, 9 tuned-forks signing as a chorus! Now *that* should be easy/convenient to exploit after the addition of a permanent magnetic field i think).

Good day, have fun!! :peace:

Update!

The instant i started to experiment with these two items juxtaposed it felt like that's a sweet-spot for "power" butane lighters, a dual-flame type in this case. The effect was paradoxal: more is less... E.G. A shorter duration heat pulse of sufficient amplitude works wonders in terms of aroma/taste. Beware this is joining multiple application ranges as a result, including the "pepper" and "punch-in-the-face" effects so far!

Remember, with a VG - or even a moddified version - the lighter ain't no trivial part of the vaporisation process. It doesn't have to cost a fortune, this one felt somewhat expensive though i find that upgrade fully justified today.

Good day, have fun!!

Update!

Egzoset's Customized VG Bronze Sherlock - Labelled (2017-Sep-29) [768x360] .PNG

My final cfg. recommendation for Christmass: " 3.1 • 1.0 • 2.5 ", (10-16), 27½.

Suggested butane "pipe" torch lighters are single or dual BLUE flame, the later power option works best for "Micro-Bursting" though in some instances i prefered the other unit while experimenting with aroma/taste appreciation, depending on weight of cannabic load and humidity.

Non-shaved (lightly trimmed only), non-compressed, resinous & crispy-dry/well-cured "bio" always a favourite... :weed:

Good day, have fun!!

Salutations OldMedUser,
Salutations LabRat,

Honestly if there must be some reward after all this then it's got to be duplication, followed by peer reviews...

8-)

Only then i shall be able to feel truly honored! Meanwhile it seems there's always some more tweaking awaiting at times!

But you're most welcome anyway, thank you! Now please receive this complement update as an expression of my appreciation:

Simplified Monobloc Removal - Labelled (2016-Apr-20) [300x400] .PNG

Begin procedure by using large Screw-Driver to eject the "Monobloc".

...

What's a "Monobloc"? Here it is with its complement "Flame-Catcher"...

Core Path with Wood Ball Removed - Labelled (2016-Apr-20) [300x400] .PNG

Once removed it should prove much easier then to take off the "Flame-Catcher" as well, tough this part may seem somewhat trickier: just hit the corners, not the sides... Be warned the indentations holding a "Flame-Catcher" inside the wood Sphere do require a firm hand while avoiding excessive deformations. Other than that, there's no significant difficulty - m'well, real fun comes later when cutting both items to length!
